About the course.

If you are curious about what it is like to work as a visual designer, you can take your first step with the introductory course Graphic Design Start. You gain an overall understanding of what the profession can involve through a range of perspectives, methods and tools, and then use them to solve communication challenges.

Graphic design is a field within visual communication that is constantly evolving. The question is whether the field has ever developed as quickly as now; the future is as exciting as it is uncertain. But even though much is new and much changes from one day to the next, the fundamentals and principles of graphic design remain the same. The course gives insight into both what has been and what is. You learn perspectives and tools through weekly assignments followed by feedback and discussion. The course revolves around solving different kinds of communication challenges: from strategy, concept and idea to applying design for different purposes and surfaces, both analog and digital. Two formats Graphic Design Start is available in two formats, Remote and Evening. The evening course focuses on collective learning: the course assignments are solved in teams and followed by joint feedback. The teams vary in composition and size from week to week. The remote course has a greater focus on the individual and the assignments are carried out individually; feedback and discussion on the assignments are formulated personally but shared among all participants. Adobe Creative Cloud There is no scheduled teaching in the software Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. You should be familiar with the programs before the course starts. Self-study takes place during the course, and most, though not all, of the course assignments are recommended to be done in the Adobe CS programs. During the course you get access to self-study material. The support material consists of instructional videos, links and other tips, as well as a forum for asking questions and discussing problems and challenges with other participants, teachers and lecturers.
